Well one sure way of boosting the economy in Peru is getting people there. Putting barriers like expensive airfares limits people from traveling there and spending money in Peru.
The other concerns are the living conditions in Peru, people need to get into the 21st century with better living conditions. I love nature and culture but all must co exist together and presentation is the key. It really doesn’t take much to restore or rebuild structures suitable for everyone and everything. Not only will it create jobs, it will instill a sense of security, education and most of all better health. In Peru in South America is the diamond in the ruff there’s an abundance of natural resources, which is endless for the country's sucess. The focus should not just be the major cities like Lima. Think about it it’s not only wher people want go or see or experience, they want it all. And the sky is the limit or should I say the Andeans!!

Paul, my Spanish is actually still a bit limited, but that does not matter at all when looking for an EFL teaching job. The TEFL certification was not a prerequisite where I teach either, as long as you are native or fluent in English and have some academic ability you will be fine.

Bottom line, in most bigger cities there is a significant market for EFL teachers and you should have no trouble finding a job.

Best of luck.

Hey, don't know if you still check this or if you will reply, but I am moving to Peru for a TEFL cert. course in 3 weeks. My Spanish is limited, but i'm hoping i'll be able to learn quickly. Do you think this will be possible and if not, will i still be able to secure a job upon completing the course?

Any additional info/tips that you have for living and working in Peru for the first time would be welcomed!

Thank you, Paul C.
